What is Anxiety?

Anxiety is a feeling of fear, panic, nervousness or uneasiness. For some people, the anxious feeling goes away after a short period, when we perceive the threat to be over, and we can begin to feel calmer again. However, for others, we are left with an overwhelming feeling of anxiety and we find it hard to calm ourselves down again. This is then known as an anxiety disorder.

What Causes Anxiety?

Everyone gets anxious at times. Certain events can make us more anxious than others, and the triggers can be different for everyone. You may be more at risk if someone else in your family has suffered from anxiety, or if you have experienced several stressful events in your life. Anxiety can often manifest in our teenage years, and if left untreated, anyone can go on to have reoccurring anxiety issues.
