Why I Became an Anxiety Specialist and Therapist | Jennifer Roblin | Better Your Life

Jennifer Roblin Anxiety Therapist and Specialist

If you have read my story on the Meet Jennifer page, you will know that anxiety shaped my life long before I ever gave it a name. This article is about the moment I knew that helping people overcome anxiety was not just something I wanted to do. It was something I had to do.

What I Witnessed In The Corporate World

Throughout my career in Investment Banking I had the privilege of working with some extraordinarily talented people. Smart, driven and capable people who by every measure should have been thriving.

But no matter which country or continent I was working in, the same pattern kept showing up. The biggest thing holding the most talented people back was not skill or ambition. It was fear, and that fear was expressing itself in ways I now recognise instantly as anxiety.

I recognised every single one of those fears because I had lived them all myself, quietly, behind a very convincing professional exterior. You can read more about how I work with corporate organisations on my corporate training page.

The Decision To Leave The Corporate World

I left the corporate world in early 2016. I had known for a long time that the part of my career I loved most was developing other people, helping them see their own strengths and find their way through what was holding them back. But I wanted to go deeper than a corporate role ever allowed.

My daughter was starting senior school and I was acutely aware of how anxious that transition had made me at the same age. I wanted to be truly present for her, and I knew my purpose was bigger than what I was doing.

Before I could help anyone else, I did a great deal of work on myself first. That was non negotiable. I strongly believe you cannot truly help others with something you have not addressed in yourself, and that work shaped a lot of what I bring to my practice today.

My Retraining Journey

My interest in the human mind had begun much earlier. I started studying Psychology with the Open University back in 2006 because it genuinely fascinated me. When I made the decision to retrain I threw myself into it fully, immersing myself in the neuroscience of the unconscious mind and nervous system and I have been continuing to learn ever since.

Alongside my formal training I drew on over 15 years of volunteering on mental health charity phone lines, something I continue to do to this day. Supporting people through their most difficult moments taught me things no qualification ever could.

I set up Better Your Life in late 2016 and have never looked back.

So Why Anxiety Specifically?

So many coaches, counsellors and therapists believe they can help everyone with everything. That never felt right to me. I wanted to become a true expert in one area and dedicate myself to it completely.

Anxiety was the obvious choice. It had shaped my entire life and I had watched it quietly hold back some of the most talented people I had ever worked with. I had also come to understand something that most people do not realise. By getting to the root cause of anxiety, so much else gets fixed along the way. Relationships improve. Careers transform. Health issues resolve. My clients go on to thrive in ways they never believed possible, even those who arrived completely convinced that nothing could help them.

That only happens because we address the root cause rather than placing a plaster over it.

My Mission

I believe deeply that no one needs to let anxiety dominate their life. I have seen this proven over and over again, even with clients who arrived certain they were beyond help.

I also believe that no single therapy has all the answers, which is why I draw on a range of approaches tailored entirely to the individual in front of me. Every person is different. Every nervous system has its own story. My job is to help you reconnect with the resources you already have within you, because they are there, even when anxiety has made them impossible to see.

I genuinely love what I do, and I am forever grateful to every single client who trusts me with their journey.

If you are ready to take the next step, I would love to hear from you.
