Emotional freedom technique (EFT) is a holistic acupressure treatment, designed to disrupt blocked energy within the body. It is also known as “tapping” because practitioners use fingertips to tap and apply pressure to meridian points on the body.
EFT tapping can treat people with anxiety, depression, addictions, physical pain, insomnia and PTSD.
"It feels as if a weight has been lifted"
EFT focuses on our meridian points, which are the energy hotspots within our body. The tapping releases blocked energy and restores balance, thus freeing physical pain and emotional distress.
As with Chinese medicine, these energy hotspots and pathways help balance energy flow and maintain our health. The tapping enables us to access your body’s energy and send signals to the part of your brain that controls anxiety. By stimulating the meridian points, we can reduce the anxiety or negative emotion you may currently feel.
EFT is quick and effective, with just five simple steps. It works with singular or multiple issues, and I often use it alongside other approaches such as NLP.
A 2016 study compared the effectiveness of EFT with other treatments for anxiety and concluded there was a significant decrease in anxiety scores from EFT, compared to participants receiving alternative care.
I initially used this approach on myself, and now also use it with my clients. It is always a privilege to watch my clients physiology change when they feel the relief that EFT brings them in just a couple of sessions. I am often told they feel as if a weight has been lifted, and I know exactly what they mean from my own experience of EFT!
